Tire Problems (cont'd) - FAQ's Frequently Asked Questions
What causes cupping?
Cupping can be attributed to bent or worn suspension parts, wheel misalignment, or imbalance. Once this wear pattern has occurred, it is irreversible and the tires will continue to wear unevenly.

How many years will tires last?
Tires are composed of various types of material and rubber compounds, they have a serviceable life. Tire manufacturers recommend
that any tires in service 10 years or more from the date of manufacture, including spare tires, be replaced.
Accurately predicting the serviceable life of any specific tire in advance is not possible.
Manufacturer date can be found on the tire sidewall.

What is ozone cracking or weather cracking?
These small cracks typically develop in the sidewalls or at the base of the tread grooves. Depending on their severity, they may be cosmetic in nature if they don't extend past the rubber's outer surface, or may be a reason to replace the tire if they reach deep into the rubber.

Why is there a "break-in" period for tires?
Tires are comprised of many layers of rubber, steel and fabric. Due to these different components, your new tires require a break-in period to ensure that they deliver their normal ride quality and maximum performance. As tires are cured, a release lubricant is applied to prevent them from sticking in their mold. Some of the lubricant stays on the surface of your tires, reducing traction until it is worn away. 500 miles of easy acceleration, cornering and braking will allow the mold release lubricant to wear off, allowing the other tire components to begin working together.

What should I do if I notice a vibration?
Any vibration should be an alert to a problem with your vehicle. Have your vehicle serviced immediately.
